Λευκαρίτισσα

Chrystalla was born in Lefkara in 1931, a true Lefkaritissa, a woman of Lefkara.

In those years, while the women of the village made its famous work at home, many of its men travelled abroad to sell it. Her father, Constantios, was one of them: a trader of Lefkaratika, the woven fabrics crafted in the village, he carried them to Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The craft is still alive. Lefkara has made lace since at least the 14th century, and in 2009 UNESCO added it to its list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Inspired by their mother and grandfather, Chrystalla's sons opened Lefkaritissa, named after her, to carry on what Constantios began: sharing the traditions of Lefkara with people from everywhere.
